For Small Businesses Search Engine Marketing is Essential for Survival

Many small business owners still don’t realize that they might need Search Engine Marketing. Marketing through the print media, email marketing or classified ad campaign – they will nod in agreement, but SEM is Hebrew to most of them. What’s more, many of these pseudo Rothschilds have never bothered to use Search Engine Optimization to make their website more visible to their prospective clients.

A fairly large percentage of small business owners are also unaware of the fact that in today’s digital world nobody buys anything without first doing online research about a product or services. And unless a site becomes more noticeable on the World Wide Web through SEO practices, the chances for clinching a deal becomes as remote as crossing the Atlantic on a canoe.

However, here are some of the reasons that probably cause these business persons to stay away from online SEO practices. Nevertheless, once convinced, they are likely to go for the optimization program whole hog.

>> Fear of the unknown –

The technical terminology that refers to Search Engine Optimization puts them off since they are only too familiar with internal combustion engine that powers automobiles while external combustion engines refer to steam locomotives but nothing whatsoever about Search Engines. Perhaps nobody has told them about another strange word called algorithm which explains the working of search engines. And as a natural corollary, they prefer staying as far away as possible from such seemingly absurd topic.

>> Lack of endurance –

Since search engine optimization is not a magic formula that yields overnight results and takes time to bear fruit, most small business owners consider it as useless practice that consumes time and money and so may be nipped in the bud. Also, since SEO practices involve keeping up with continuous algorithmic changes as also renewing content every now and again, small business owners try to evade the experience, compared to walking barefoot on hot coal.

>> Lack of experience –

Many small business owners abandon SEO, when halfway through. In order to cut costs, some enterprising small business persons try to initiate SEO on their own, but soon get disheartened as no appreciable results appear on the horizon, dampening their spirits. This happens partly due to inexperience and partly due to lack of knowledge about how search engines work. For instance, it involves keyword based research, understanding how the ‘spiders’ crawl through the pages, how the indexing is done and a multitude of other issues that can be mastered only through long term familiarity with the process.

While some of the reasons that go behind small business houses avoiding or staying away from investing in SEO practices have been outlined in the above paragraphs, here are some that may inspire the same entrepreneurs to go for SEO right away.

>> Better marketing at lesser cost

Even under normal circumstances, traditional marketing not only cost at least 60% more than search engine marketing but also proves far less effective in many sectors. To begin with, traditional marketing can never be as targeted as SEM. Also, there is no assurance that people would scan, select and open your email from among the many that collects in a person’s inbox everyday. The same fait awaits your commercials. In any case, soaps are not the in things now. Recent studies have revealed that 46% of people (non-commercial) do not find time to open their mail, while more than 80% skip television ads with vengeance. Whereas, search engine optimization guarantees 78.8% success and the cost becomes negligible if you can initiate yourself.

>> Creates customer loyalty

Since search engine marketing does not disturb your privacy by forcing you read mails or induce you to view lousy television commercials, customers are automatically created who become happy with you and so eventually become loyal to you. Also, if your initial interaction with a customer is through outbound marketing, the most common effect is rejection. SEM, on the other hand has a totally different approach. Here a customer, in search of his/her requirement will visit your website to get the desired product or services and will keep on visiting you whenever in need of such things.

>> Provides unlimited clientele, including global customers

World Wide Web is indeed world wide, covering each and every corner of our lonely planet. Any marketing effort through the internet will reach everyone inhabiting it, crossing the border of countries and continents. Businesses can also target their campaign in selected demographics where certain products or services are always welcome. Many small yet global business houses provide free delivery to anywhere in the US (save and except Alaska and Hawaii), thanks to the services offered by DHL and similar organizations.

>> Missing SEO campaign means losing your ground

It is as simple as that. While your competitors have been able to secure higher ranking and so becomes more visible through SEO efforts, your inaction in this regard will put you far behind and so seal your fate. So, don’t be irrational – go enlist the services of a reliable SEO expert and get started right away.
