When Competition takes your Night’s Sleep away ….

When competition takes your night’s sleep away, go back to SEO for relief and remedy. Even if it means revamping your website, SEO will be there to help you out in many ways. If you do not believe me, believe in the fundamentals of SEO and follow accordingly- it’s the only way to keep your competitors at bay and at the same time to let you remain at the top of SERP. Meanwhile, concentrate on the following issues that will decide your fate.

Content Makes All the Difference

Ever try to create better content for your website. Irrespective of whether you are implementing Pay-per-Click or any other digital marketing strategy to attract traffic to your website, the quality and relevance of the content will go a long way towards its success. If you feel that fresh content will enhance its appeal, then go ahead. After all, it’s your content and you can always edit it to perfection. What is more, it will then prove more appealing to the search engines and their indexing program while at the same time making it more interesting to the actual readers. Quality content also leads to viral sharing, a phenomenon that automatically increases the number of external backlinks pointing at your website, thus improving you SE Optimization.

Also, if you feel daunted due to competitors usurping your high search ranking, invest time in creating relevant articles, blog posts and other forms of content to counteract such threats.

Keyword Targeting Strategies are Equally Important

While creating your content, you need to pay adequate attention to the keywords you are targeting. The mere fact that you have hit the top in the Google results for a chosen keyword need not necessarily mean that you can maintain that rank for ever. As a matter of fact, you need to focus on search queries that yield the highest traffic. In order to figure out keywords that are most effective, you need to look at the traffic data for multiple search queries by way of using Google Analytic or Google’s Webmaster Tools program. If necessary, you can use Raven Tools to find out the keywords that help produce most conversions.

Keep Yourself Well Informed

So far as SEO is concerned, stay abreast of SEO news because even a minor change of strategy may mean a big jump for you against your competitor. Be agile to monitor SEO news websites that include Search Engine Land or Search Engine Watch each week on a regular basis.

Monitoring your Competitor’s Backlink Profiles

True, you need to monitor your own website’s backlink profiles to thwart negative SEO attacks, yet at the same time you need to keep a watch on changes, if any, in the links your competitor is trying to build.  By monitoring your competitors’ backlink profiles using tools like Majestic SEO or Open Site Explorer you can both categorize potential linking partners for your site and unearth any new linking strategies your competitor may be using in an attempt to beat you.

Keeping a Watch on your Competitor’s On-Site SEO Activities

Especially, your competitor’s on-site optimization efforts. For instance, if any of your competitors abruptly changes his/her SEO activities, it could mean two things. Either he/she has found out a novel method of optimizing the pages in the search results or he/she might be updating the pages following a penalty imposed by the search engines.

Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to keep a watch on your competitor’s title tag structure, use of keyword-optimized headers and other SEO related activities so that you may plan your next course of action. Incidentally, most of this information (call it espionage, if you like) is available for the asking with the help of free downloadable tool known as Traffic Travis.
